The Parent’s Foundation, Inc. is
an empowered, self-reliant and sustainable organization
of parents and professionals committed to provide a broad
range of services which address the needs of autism and
other related disorders.
MISSION
To develop centers of utmost capability
and excellence in the fields of Skills Training, Diagnosis
and Assessment, Research and Community Outreach related
to the cause of autism and related disorders.
HISTORY OF THE
ORGANIZATION
In October 2000, a group of six parents
of children with autism and some professionals in Cebu
met and organized themselves to avail of the specialized
training from the Center in Manila for Autism and Related
Disorders in Manila. The center sent their directress
and some trainers to Cebu to conduct a training-seminar
on the management of autism addressed to parents and
other caregivers. With this initial contact, arrangements
were made to have the children assessed and individual
programs prepared for implementation within six months.
Thus, this paved the way for a long-lasting cooperation
between the center and the group of parents.
By late 2000, upon initial discussions,
and the support of the center, the group decided to
form a non-stock, non-profit foundation of parents and
professionals dedicated to the management of autism.
It was only in May 2001 when the foundation was actually
registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC). The parent’s Reach Foundation, Inc. was
formed with an initial membership of six parents and
professionals.
The Foundation proceeded to prepare
plans for the setting up of a special education and
training center to be called the REACH Center. Teacher-trainees
were sent to Manila to train at the center. By June
2001, the REACH Center opened for enrollment.
